David “Dave” C. Hyde, Sr. went to heaven on May 26, 2021 at the age of 85 after extended illnesses (too many to list honestly). He was born in Etowah, Tennessee to Harriet Lougenia and John Louis Hyde on November 10, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, oldest son, David C. Hyde, Jr. and great grandson, Declan Wesley Hyde. He is survived by his wife, Mary Suzanne “Sue” Chaudoin Hyde; son Dan (Kelley) and daughter Mindy (Ed Drake); grandsons, Dalton (Rhesa) and Braden; and great granddaughter Greyson Reese Hyde. Dave grew up in Louisville, KY and graduated from Male High School. He attended classes at Campbellsville College and then began his career with International Harvester. When they went on strike, he went to work for Standard Oil of KY and completed his degree at the University of Louisville by taking night classes for eight years. His 42-year career with the Standard Oil of KY/Chevron Oil Company began in Louisville and included stints in Jacksonville and Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Jackson, MS until he arrived in Marietta, GA in 1977 where he retired (early 90’s) and resided the rest of his life. Dave was married to Sue for nearly 62 years. He was a wonderful example of a Biblical Christian husband and father. Dave loved and was so proud of his family and bragged on them constantly. More than anything he loved his Lord and lived out his faith daily. Dave was a longtime deacon at Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta and passionately served on the missions ministry, where he helped with the ESL and citizenship class programs. He helped start the ESL program at Woodstock First Baptist Church, where he was a member until his passing. In his younger, healthier days he enjoyed tennis, golf, beekeeping, traveling, and watching his kids and grandchildren participate in athletic activities. He served in the Air National Guard. In his later years, he watched a lot of TV, mostly war movies or old westerns he had seen numerous times. He could talk to anyone, was always good for a stale joke or two and was a proud Kentucky Colonel. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Eastside Baptist Church, 2450 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068. A second service is being planned for extended relatives in Louisville, KY around Christmastime. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to the youth missions ministry at Eastside Baptist Church Giving | Eastside (followeastside.com) or the North American Mission Board Give - North American Mission Board (namb.net).
