George D. Green, 89, most recently of Monroe, GA and formerly of Marietta, GA, passed from life to Life on Dec 1, 2019. George was born March 25, 1930, in Beech Springs, SC to the late Lillian Fowler Green and Carl Dennis Green. He is also preceded in death by sister Evelyn Cooper, brother William Green, and sister Gladys Green (infant). He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Green of Monroe, GA and formerly of Marietta, GA; son, Dennis Green (Brenda) of Richmond, VA; daughter, Kelly Kraus (Bruce) of Snellville, GA; grandchildren Leah Simpson (Trae), Denny Green, Kevin Kraus, Gretchen Kraus, and Karl Kraus; great-grandsons Noah and Kane Simpson; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and wonderful friends. George served in the US Air Force from December 1950 to December 1954. He was an Airman and A&E Mechanic based at James Connally AFB in Waco, Texas, where he received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. His work career included a range of occupations including airplane mechanic at Lockheed AFB in Marietta, GA; route delivery driver for a bread company and Atlanta Beverage Company; owner of a package store; and self-employed construction subcontractor. George was a strong man of deep faith who loved deeply and forgave quickly. If he was your friend, he was a great friend. He loved to laugh and kept his family and friends laughing with his wit and penchant for solving problems in some very creative ways! He loved Southern Gospel music and would attend live performances whenever he could, and he followed sports avidly, especially Nascar racing, college and pro football, and the Atlanta Braves. He was a master griller/barbecuer and loved to host friends and family to partake of his culinary creations from the grill (Boston butt barbecue and fried turkey were his specialties). He instilled family with camping, hunting, and fishing trips and spent precious hours with his wife Joyce fishing on the Atlantic intercoastal canal where they retired in Flagler Beach, Florida. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, Dec 7 at Loganville First United Methodist Church, 221 Main Street, Loganville, GA.
