Harold Denton (“Denny”) Latham, Jr., 74, of Canton, GA passed away on September 11, 2024. Denny was born October 13, 1949 to Harold and Margaret (“Peggy”) Latham in Berkeley, California. During his lifetime, he lived in California, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, and Georgia. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era at Oakland Army Base in California.
Denny was a very hard worker who worked diligently to provide for his family. He worked in various service-oriented jobs over the years — banking, cleaning, food service, retail, automotive sales, and more. His family will always remember his strong work ethic.
Affectionately known as “Snack Daddy,” Denny loved good food. He loved traveling throughout North Georgia to visit many of his favorite restaurants. When others travelled to other towns and cities, he was quick to make good restaurant recommendations. He was a big connoisseur of Diet Coke.
Denny was also a lover of sports, having been a good basketball player and baseball player in his day. Having grown up near Chicago, and having spent time in California, he was once a big fan of the Chicago White Sox, Oakland A’s, and other Chicago-land and Northern California teams. For the last 40+ years, Denny faithfully pulled for all his Atlanta Teams — the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
The most important thing in Denny’s life was his family. He greatly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. His kids have fond memories of spending time with their dad at sporting events, on trips to the North Georgia mountains and Panama City Beach, at WWF events, and other activities. Denny was very proud of all of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
Denny attended church all of his life, having grown up in the Church of the Nazarene. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville, GA.
Denny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Beth; three children: Kristy (Ryan), Patrick (Laura), and Todd (Heather); nine grandchildren: Jackson, Lacy, Austin, Lily, Julianne, Jocelyn, Will, Dixie, and Levi; and his brother Ken (Cara). He was preceded in death by his parents Harold Denton Latham, Sr. and Margaret Belle Curtiss Latham.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Veterans to Veterans by contacting Dr. Robert Poston at 678-986-1702, or checks can be mailed to 102 Allison Circle; Cartersville, GA 30120.
