Norma Ann Steele

November 29, 1946 — December 9, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Norma Ann Steele, 73, on Monday, December 9, 2019. She passed away peacefully to be with our Lord, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Marietta, GA after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Norma was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada on November 29, 1946. She graduated from the Ontario School for the Deaf in Belleville in 1964. She attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Norma was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Roma (Darren) Thomas and Rexana “Raya” Steele, her grandchildren Miranda (A.J.) Green, True Neely, Lyric “Bitty” Thomas, Diamond Thomas, and great-grandsons Easton and Gunnar Green. Norma is dearly missed by her brother Daniel (Nancy) Wojcik of Ottawa, Canada and sister Helen (Mario) Pizzacalla of Thorold, Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Ruth Wojcik, and grandson Jared Carroll. She will be sadly missed by her nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. Norma was a longtime and active member of Southern Baptist churches with deaf ministries in Virginia, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia. She also served on the Tennessee Association of the Deaf board, first as Secretary and then as President. Norma was employed with Social Security Administration as a claims specialist for many years in Tennessee and later promoted to the position of Administrative Assistant before she retired in 2004. Norma's warmth, kindness and humor always drew others in. Taking great delight in spending time with family and friends, she especially enjoyed family vacations and watching her favorite team, the Atlanta Braves. Norma will be deeply missed, cherished and loved forever. While our hearts are broken with the loss of this beautiful woman, we know she is now with the Lord in Heaven. A private cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Deaf Missions, 21199 Greenview Road, Council Bluffs, IA 51503.
