Vernel Roosevelt Mcfarland

Mr. Vernel McFarland was born March 12, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the child of Milton Dudley and Ivy Mae McFarland. Both of his parents proceeded him in death. He was raised by his mother, Ivy Mae McFarland.  He was one of four children. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Reginald McFarland and his two sons, Jermaine Green and Vernel McFarland Jr.  He leaves to cherish his wife, Victoria McFarland, a brother, Donald Gaines, a sister, Cynthia Gaines and two daughters Teana McFarland and Christina McFarland.  He also has 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. They all lovingly referred to him as “PopPop”.

Vernel worked as a corrections officer for the Maryland Department of Corrections for over 25 years. He retired and went back to work security at Anne Arundel Medical Center. While working at this job is where he met his wife. Vernel and Victoria were married in 2009. They moved from Bowie, Maryland to Georgia in 2022. He spent his last few weeks in hospice care. He passed away peacefully on July 1, 2023.
