Aleida L. Castro

October 23, 1924 — June 8, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Aleida L. Castro, 99, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who joined our Lord on June 8, 2024.

Born in Placetas, Cuba, in 1924, Dr. Castro was the eldest of five children. She received her medical degree in anesthesiology from the University of Havana and her postgraduate certificate from New York University. Dr. Castro was the first female anesthesiologist to be employed by the University Hospital of Brooklyn at Long Island College Hospital and was eventually named chief medical director. She later unselfishly chose to further her social service by serving as a major in the U.S. Army. She was a devout Catholic.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Castro-Kinzey (Jeff); daughter-in-law, Carol; grandchildren, Kisa, Dylan, Ali, Celia and Keri; great grandchildren, Syah and Jonah; and several extended family members. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Pedro, and sons, Peter and Martin. With her hearty laugh and opinions on everything, she was a joy and treasure to all who knew her and her memory will be cherished. Prayers for the repose of her soul are greatly appreciated.

A funeral service will be held at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, GA on June 19th, 2024 at 3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dementia Society of America.
