Andrew Garner Self

Mr. Andrew Garner Self, age 82, of Rome, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Seven Hills Place Memory Care Community.

Mr. Self was born in Rome, GA, on October 23, 1940, son of the late Elmer F Self and the late Ruth L Self. Mr. Self graduated from Johnson High School in 1958. Like most of the Self family, Mr. Self delivered papers for the Rome News Tribune. Mr. Self worked for the FBI in Washington DC immediately after high school but decided to return home to marry the love of his life, Evelyn R. Self. Mr. Self was the owner of Self Motors and S&S Wholesale with his brother, Charles, then started Discount Jewelers in Rome in 1984. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he was very active and served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn R Self, and one grandchild, Emily Self, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his only child, Andrew “Andy” Self, his brothers, WL Self, Charles Self and Manuel Self, and his sisters, Aileen Cox and Evelyn Cooper.

Funeral service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, 2293 Calhoun Road, Rome, on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 2 pm. Visitation will begin at 1 pm. The Rev. Justin Silver will officiate.
