Anthony (Tony) Colvin-Baraka was born on May 5, 1957 in Saginaw, MI and raised in Detroit, MI. He spent most of his adult life in Tuskegee, AL and later Atlanta, GA. He departed this life on May 18, 2020. Tony had a passion for music and entertainment and spent many years working as a radio deejay, magazine publisher and marketing consultant. He served as founder and president of Baraka Branding Group, national sales and marketing consultant for The Source Magazine, Urban Plush Lifestyle Brand, Vose Magazine, Grip Magazine, Dapper Magazine, Uptown Magazine, Jezebel Magazine and was co-publisher and founder of TAFRIJA Magazine. Tony was also the founder and CEO of the Southeast Urban Music Conference (SUMC) as well as College Urban Music Fest. His radio experience included stints as a sales manager, account executive and on-air personality for WBIL Radio in Tuskegee and a production specialist for WGPR in Detroit. He leaves to carry on his legacy two children, Toni Imanni Baraka and Koran Riley-Colvin Baraka, his mother, Jean Jones, two sisters, Chakaya Jeanette White Omwaso and Aisha Paulette Colvin, a niece, Sheba Colvin, and a host of family, friends and loved ones.
