It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Arzee Harvey “Max” McAbee, who left us on October 5, 2024, at the age of 81.
A native of Tryon, GA, Max was born on February 24, 1943. His life took a spiritual turn after relocating to Clearwater, Florida in his twenties, where he felt the call to serve the Lord. With a heart full of faith and a passion for sharing the Gospel, Max devoted his life to ministry. From the pulpit to the songbook, he tirelessly proclaimed the Word of God, inspiring countless souls.
Max also dedicated many years to a career in horticulture, first with the City of Clearwater and then with his own landscaping company, McAbee Contractors, which operated in both Florida and Georgia. Upon retiring from horticulture, Max was employed at AdventHealth Gordon, a hospital in Calhoun, Georgia, where he was known by his colleagues for his unique sense of humor.
A US Army Corp veteran since 1966, and later serving with the National Guard, Max held a leadership role at his local American Legion Post 305 in Fairmount, Georgia until his death. He and his wife Judy (deceased) were known by many local residents for their gifts of music and song.
Max is preceded in death by his wife Judith Ann McAbee, stepson Dean Russell McAbee and son Michael Shane McAbee. Max is survived by his son Joshua Heath McAbee and stepchildren, Stephen McAbee and Christine Kellogg, along with several grandchildren: Katherine Kellogg, Victoria Bailey, David Kellogg, Jennifer Brooks, Matthew McAbee, Bailey McAbee and Camden McAbee.
