Benjamin Jorge

Benjamin Jorge, 85, of Decatur, GA went to heaven on February 23, 2019. He was born January 18, 1934, in San Francisco, CA, the son of the late Cruz and Maria Aceves Jorge, and preceeded in death by brother Reuben Jorge. Ben was a proud graduate of St. Ignatious High School and University of San Francisco. His most notable occupation was with the Federal Government where he worked with the Department of Labor, and retired from the Office of Inspector General, after 27 years of service. After retirement, his love of people led him to teach. He was a para pro with Decatur High School for 13 years, where he thoroughly enjoyed working with the students, especially the football players. From the stories he shared, they loved him too. He took French lessons at Alliance Francaise d'Atlanta, continuing his love of education. He was a voracious reader and perhaps a bibliotaph, as he jokingly said, he loved his books as his own children. He was faithful to his church, St. Thomas More, in Decatur, as there was no denying his strong faith in the Lord. He also enjoyed eating out, fine wine, opera, and classical music, specifically Mahler. But mostly, he was a family man. He undoubtedly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Survived by sister Velia Kroupa of San Francisco CA, daughters Jennifer Hutcheson and husband, Charles Hutcheeson of Kennesaw, GA and Helen Brown and husband Laddy Brown, of Palm Coast, FL. Grandchildren Matthew Vaughn, Jackie Ortiz, Joe Glover, Jacob Brown, Luke Brown, Josh Brown and great grandsons Lucas Ortiz and Leon-Benjamin Ortiz and nephew Paul Kroupa. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 87 Lacy St. Marietta, GA 30060 on March 1, 2019 at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will follow at Atherton Place at 11:30 AM, 111 Tower Rd. Marietta, GA 30060.
