Betty Cleo Kirkman

Betty Kirkman, 82, of Rome, GA, passed away on May 2, 2024.


She was born November 5, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Clarence L. Coward and Eula T. Cowart.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Phillip L. McGinty Sr., second husband Lee V. Kirkman, and sister Margaret Wiggins Tolbert.


She graduated from Cook County High School in Adel, Ga. She was active in many organizations around Floyd County. Since 1970, she has volunteered 15,079 hours with the Floyd Medical Center Auxiliary. She was the past State President of the Council on Volunteers/Auxiliaries and the Past President of the Floyd Medical Center Auxiliary. She received the Good Samaritan of the Year award and was also instrumental in many fund-raising efforts.


She is survived by daughter Lisa McWhorter (Tracy), son Phillip McGinty (Amy), Grandchildren Ben McWhorter (Jeanie Paige), Madyson McGinty, Davis McGinty, and Chloe Jones, Great-Grandchildren Rayne McWhorter and Jolie McWhorter, Sister Jean Wilkerson, and many nieces and nephews.


A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Rome First United Methodist Church.


Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the Floyd Medical Center Auxiliary or the American Diabetes Association.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Rome and Tapestry Hospice for the care they provided over the past three years.
