Betty Early, 94, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in Atlanta on January 20, 2025.
Born on May 29, 1930, to Otis and Emma Neal of Cropper, Kentucky, Betty lived a life filled with love, family, and a passion for things that brought her joy.
Betty was married to Martin Early for 54 years before passing in 2005. Together, they built a home full of warmth and cherished memories while living in Louisville for many years.
As a young person, Betty was an accomplished pianist. The first piece of furniture she and Martin purchased together was a piano, which she lovingly kept in her homes for 60 years—a testament to her enduring love for music.
A wonderful cook, Betty was especially known for her Christmas candy-making during her children’s elementary school years. Her handmade treats were a favorite among teachers; many would vie for the chance to have one of her children in their classroom just to receive a delicious box of her candies.
Betty had a love for reading, especially mysteries, and enjoyed solving Jumble puzzles. She was an avid walker and exercised regularly, staying active and engaged throughout her life. She also loved trying new recipes, always eager to share a delicious meal with her family.
In addition to her husband, Martin, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings: SJ and Otis Neal, Mary Parr and Juanita Finnegan. She is survived by her sister, Ardith Bohannon, and several nieces and nephews.
Betty is also survived by her children: Sandra Cheaney (Russell), Robin Ziegler (Steve), Lori DeHart (Kevin), and Scott Early (Sarah). She was a proud grandmother to Sara Cheaney Reagan (Greg), Ben Cheaney (Kathryn), Michael Cheaney (Taylor), Nathan Ziegler, Zach, Samantha and Natalie DeHart, and Zoe, Luke and Keira Early. Betty’s first great-grandchild, Oliver Reagan, was born shortly after her passing.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her long-time caregiver, Agnes Akinsunmoye, who lovingly provided Betty with years of dedicated care.
The family would also like to thank Amada Senior Care, Affinity Hospice and the Staff of Legacy Ridge Marietta for their assistance. A special thank you to Crystal Johnson.
Betty’s life was one of kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local public library or to the Alzheimer's Association.
