Betty Hamilton MacKendree November 7, 1926 – December 27, 2021 Betty Hamilton MacKendree passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on December 27, 2021, at the Heritage Senior Living in Marietta, GA. Betty was born on November 7, 1926, in Mobile, AL, one of eight children growing up during the Great Depression. She attended Murphy High School, and met and married Ross E. Hamilton, a Marine who served in the South Pacific during World War II. When the war ended, Betty and Ross spent a year in Mobile and moved to Pensacola where Ross worked in Civil Service for 38 years. Betty worked for 21 years at Pensacola Builders Supply. After retirement, Betty and Ross enjoyed gardening and traveling. Ross passed away in 1990, and Betty stayed busy singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and working in the church where she met and married Moffatt MacKendree, a retired Army officer. They played golf, bowled, and loved traveling with friends. After 17 wonderful years, Moffatt died, and Betty moved to Ft. Walton Beach and then to Atlanta, GA. Betty is survived by her son Ross (Jenny) Hamilton of Ft. Walton Beach and daughter Jane (Wayne) Nellums of Atlanta, grandchildren Linde (Mike) Bowman, Chad (Nancy) Hamilton, Ashley (Joe) Modisett, Ryan (Anna) Nellums, and Allison (Nate) Laird, and 11 great-grandchildren. Betty’s remains will be interred next to those of her late husband, Ross, at Barrancas Cemetery at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola. In celebration of her life, family and friends are invited to assemble at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022, at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, 5920 Lillian Highway, Pensacola, FL 32506, www.myrtlegrovebaptist.org. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.
