Betty Lee Hatfield Jackson, lovingly known to most as Mimi, was born on August 15, 1929 in Williamson, WV, to the late Anthony Wayne Hatfield and Lassye Deskins Hatfield. Mimi died peacefully the morning of November 13, 2020 surrounded by the love of her four daughters. She was 91 years old. Her years in West Virginia were filled with good times with cousins and friends, cheerleading, Friday night post-football game dance parties, and Sundays at the Methodist Church followed by dinner at Granny's. In her later years, she loved asking Alexa to play her beloved Nat King Cole and Barbara Streisand tunes. Mimi married in 1955 and moved to Florida on her honeymoon, fulfilling a long-held dream to live in Florida. She and her husband settled in Bradenton, Florida where she was active in her church, the Junior Women's Club, and busy times with her four active daughters. Holidays were all special to Mimi, especially Halloween and Christmas. Many family holiday traditions are already being carried out through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1988, Mimi moved to Atlanta to live with her oldest daughter, Vicki. She spent 23 happy years in their home, helping to raise Vicki's two children and serving as the neighborhood grandma and instigator of fun activities for the neighborhood children, many of whom reached out in Mimi's last weeks to extend their love and share precious memories. For the last eight years, Mimi was a proud resident of Clairmont Place where she enjoyed making many new friends and taking part in countless special events, especially the Halloween parties. Mimi was notorious for her Halloween costumes and her great variety of hats. Her smile lit up the room. In addition to her parents, Mimi was predeceased by her brother, Anthony Wayne Hatfield, Jr., and her sister, Mary Anne Jackson. She is survived by her four daughters: Vicki Jackson Riedel (Joe), Julianne Jackson, Joni Jackson Perkins (Jack), and Lesli Kim Jackson Trameri (Kevin). Mimi is also survived by five granddaughters and seven grandsons, and 10 great-granddaughters and 10 great-grandsons. She adored them all, and they adored her in return. Her daughters, Juli and Kim, lovingly cared for Mimi in their homes in the last months of Mimi's life with constant love and attention from Joni and Vicki. Should friends desire, memorial gifts may be made to one of the two not-for-profits very special to Mimi: Camp Sunshine, 1850 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033; https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1439664/donate OR the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, 1575 NE Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30329; choa.org/fightcancer The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
