Betty Loraine (Starr) Plagmann, formerly of Conroy IA, passed away
October 25, 2022 at Tiger Lily Estates in Cartersville GA. She was 98.
Betty was born on October 25,1924 in Andrew, Iowa, to Charles M.
Starr and Amanda Heneke Starr. She graduated from Oxford Junction
High School in 1942. Betty played basketball and was in the band as a
clarinet player.
Betty moved to Cedar Rapids after graduation and was “Rosie the
Riveter” building radios for Collins during the World War ll years. After
the war, she met Henry Plagmann Jr., her future husband, at
Danceland in Cedar Rapids Iowa.
Betty was united in marriage to Henry G Plagmann Jr on Jan. 20,
1949, at Little Brown Church in Nashua. Betty was a lifelong farm wife
who raised her 3 sons and helped with the farming operation. The
couple lived on the farm west of Conroy until moving to Williamsburg
Iowa in 1995. Hank and Betty also wintered as “snow birds” in New
Smyrna Beach, Fl. They moved to Highland Ridge Senior living in
2005. Betty relocated to Cartersville GA in October 2021 to be closer
to family. She was an avid Bridge Player and achieved the rank of 9
on Bridgebase and was a ranking member of the ACBL.
She is survived by three sons, Gregory Plagmann of Palm Bay, FL,
Charles Plagmann of Casselberry, FL, and Harlan (Angela) Plagmann
of Cartersville, GA; seven grandchildren, Brad Plagmann, Amanda
Plagmann, Christine Plagmann, Kaila Plagmann-Aylor (Kyle), Cetera
Plagmann, Heather Schwake-Smith and Opalynn Smith; 2 great
grandsons, Henry Aylor and Luca Aylor.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years Henry,
both parents; a sister, Charlene Bunge; a brother, Donald Starr, and a
daughter-in-law Taina (Wilson) Plagmann.
Betty’s family will not be having a public service and will instead take
time to celebrate Betty's life privately together. The family requests all
memorials go to First Presbyterian Church of Williamsburg IA.
