Bonnie Joan Maker (Anderson), 80, of Morganton, GA, formerly of Corry, PA and Acworth, GA, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2023.
She was born in Corry, PA, daughter of the late Lawrence Pete and Bonnie Belle (Moyer) Anderson. Her circle of close friends and family would often call her by the nickname of “Bonnie Jo” or just “Jo.”
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley Smith, Sonny Anderson, Pat Baum, Bob Anderson, Bill Anderson, Andy Anderson, and Rick Anderson, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.
Bonnie had a great sense of humor. Her family, friends, and neighbors were her life. She always offered a listening ear, a ride, or a reason to laugh. She was an amazing cook and would make everyone’s favorites for the holidays. Her homemade apple pies, lasagna, potato soup, rolls, and peanut butter fudge will be missed by many. In later years, she donated her homemade apple pies to the Acworth, Georgia American Legion for their weekly steak-night.
She was spontaneous and carefree – especially when it came to travel. The spur of the moment road trips where she didn’t pack a thing and figured it out later was her way. She drove her parents to the Badlands and drove her 3 young children on an adventure out west in a VW Rabbit – even dipping into Mexico. She even tried a cruise but hated it due to sea sickness. Bonnie traveled to Paris and Hawaii, took multiple trips to Iowa and Georgia to see her children and grandchildren, and to many other states across the country.
Bonnie graduated from Corry Area High School. She was employed at Foamex, Corry Jamestown, and in the early days at Frank and Verna’s. She was also a member of the Valley View Mennonite Church.
Surviving family members include her children Tim (Valerie) Maker of Acworth, GA, Tina Rash of Corry, PA, Bonnie (Bob) Nichols of Morganton, GA; her brother Jim (Nancy) Anderson of Spring Creek, PA; grandchildren Josh Rash, Kasey Rash (Todd Phillips), Tyler Rash, Laurel Nichols, Zach (Hannah) Nichols, Melanie Maker; great-grandson Colton Rash; sisters-in-law Peg Anderson, and Barbara Anderson; close cousin Donna Owens and many nieces, nephews.
Throughout her life, friends and family were always on her mind and Corry was always her home, even as she struggled with Dementia. A special thank you to those that helped care for and love on Bonnie at Blue Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care and Willowbrook Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Valley View Mennonite Church, 24313 PA-89 & PA-77, Spartanburg, PA.
In honor of Bonnie, please visit someone living with Dementia/Alzheimer’s and share a special memory you have with that person. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Valley View Mennonite Church, 24313 PA-89 & PA-77, Spartanburg, PA 16434.
