It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Bryan L Stephenson, age 85, who left us on Sunday May 26, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley James Stephenson and Dorothy Claire Bowers Stephenson, as well as his beloved son, Robert James Stephenson.
Bryan is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Carol Stephenson, his son Michael Stephenson, his daughter Mara Stephenson and her husband Ryan Simmons, his brother Ralph Stephenson and his wife Dorothy Stephenson, and his sister Patricia Gross and her husband Doug Gross.
Bryan was born on April 17, 1939 in Smith's Parish, Bermuda. He spent his childhood exploring the island, playing soccer, and tinkering with electronics. At age 16, Bryan had the unique opportunity to engage with service members at Kindley Air Force Base in Bermuda. Visiting the base and watching technicians work on various aircraft ignited his passion for planes and inspired him to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served until 1964.
Following his military service, he joined the Xerox Corporation, where he built a distinguished 41-year career. Bryan’s dedication and talent saw him rise through the ranks, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His career took him to many cities, allowing him to enjoy an enriched lifestyle and create lasting memories.
Despite a demanding career, Bryan was a devoted family man. He raised his sons, Mike and Rob, with his first wife, Linda. In 1974, he fell in love with Carol, and at 49, he became a father all over again as they welcomed Mara into the world. Bryan was deeply involved in his children's lives, actively supporting their activities, offering unwavering support, and enduring his fair share of "BS" (his favorite kind).
Bryan was also a loving husband. He wasn’t the “warm and fuzzy” type, but he never missed a birthday or anniversary, and consistently expressed his deep love and affection for Carol through carefully worded cards, handpicked flowers, and the most thoughtful gifts.
Bryan lived a rich and fulfilling life. He had a long, successful career, traveled extensively, owned a beautiful home, and raised three wonderful children. His legacy of love, dedication, and resilience will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A celebration of Bryan's life will be held on Monday June 3rd @ 2:00pm, at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marietta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund (AKF), honoring Bryan's battle with kidney disease.
Bryan L. Stephenson will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
