Carolyn Joanne Tiede

June 6, 1937 — April 17, 2024

Carolyn Ingram Tiede of Marietta, Georgia passed away on April 17th, 2024. She was born June 6th, 1937 in Austin, Indiana, the daughter of the late Leslie and Esther Ingram. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Tiede, of Walkerton, Indiana.

As a young mother of three, Carolyn attended Indiana University, South Bend and earned both her B.S. and M.S. in Education and pursued a career in Special Education Administration. This career is what brought her to the Atlanta area, where she contributed to the community generously and enthusiastically for many years. Notably, Carolyn founded the Heart of Gwinnett Civitan Club, was a founding member of the Duluth Fall Festival, and served as the Presbyterian Women’s Director for First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, where she also received a Life Award.

For interests and hobbies, Carolyn was never one to be bored. As a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, she followed her passion for singing and performing to become part of the choir, which she deeply enjoyed being a part of. She also loved antiquing, gardening (known as “The Garden Lady with all the flowers” in her neighborhood), crafting, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with family.

Family was always a source of much joy and pride for Carolyn. She excelled in her roles as loving daughter, caring sister, steadfast mother, and magical grandmother. Much like the gardens in her yard, Carolyn sowed a vibrant life full of stories many have been lucky enough to hear. Libraries could be filled recounting the remarkable way she lived, but most simply put, all our tales are better for Carolyn having played a part in them.

Survivors include Jacquelyn Tiede of Roswell; Julia Tiede Zartman (Randy) and their children, Austin and Jackson (Caitlin Zartman) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Thomas Tiede and his daughter, Caitlin, of Marietta.

A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta on Friday, May 17th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Atlanta Humane Society or Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta.
