Carrie Mae Colbert Fleming of Acworth, GA departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020 at the age of 90. She was born in Memphis, TN on Feb. 16, 1930 to the late Mr. Shelly Colbert and Alice (Boyd) Colbert. Even though Carrie was the eldest sibling, she was preceded in death by her four brothers; Mr. U.V. Colbert; Mr. Bonnie Colbert; Mr. Clarence Colbert (Ruth) and Mr. Roy Colbert (Jacqueline); and two sisters; Ms. Lia (Lil’) Colbert and Ms. Claudette Colbert Lacey. She professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was a dedicated servant of the Lord throughout her life. Carrie loved to read her Bible to seek a better understanding of God’s Word and the blessing of salvation. Carrie graduated from Manassas High School in Memphis, TN in 1949. A life-long learner, later in life she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1982. She had a passion for travel and loved to visit other countries including Ghana, West Africa, Paris, France and several other places in Europe. Wilbur Javon Fleming, Sr. and Carrie M. Colbert fell in love and were married on Feb. 6, 1953. They were a lovely couple and made their home in Chicago, IL. To this union, they were blessed with three wonderful children. A beautiful daughter, Cheryl LaNaye Fleming, two loving sons, Wilbur Javon (Skip) Fleming, Jr. and Markus Bailey Fleming. Carrie, with her delightfully distinctive voice and easy manner, had exceptional cooking skills in the kitchen and was a wonderful wife and mother to her family. They enjoyed a happy life together, until the marriage between Carrie and Wilbur ended in 1960. Devoted to her children, Carrie successfully raised them to adulthood in Chicago. Always an independent woman, Carrie was employed for many years by the American Medical Association. Once her children were grown, she decided to move to Las Vegas, NV. It was during this time that she became very close to her daughter-in-law Theda (Fleming) Ellis, who lived in Acworth, GA. When Carrie was well into her 70’s she decided to permanently relocate to GA. Carrie’s health began to slowly decline as she entered her 80’s. With most of her children and grandchildren living primarily in IL and MN - Theda, her son Monte and her husband Reuben Ellis devoted themselves to taking care of Carrie’s day-to-day needs. They lovingly provided her with the care and assistance she needed for the last ten years of her life. Carrie will forever be cherished by her loving daughter, Cheryl L. Fleming; her two devoted sons, Wilbur Javon (Skip) Fleming, Jr. and Markus Bailey Fleming; her beloved daughter-in-law, Theda Fleming-Ellis (Reuben); her seven amazing grandchildren, Monte Javon Stallworth; Gia Howell, Monica Howell; Sebastian Fleming, Bartholomew Fleming, Amelia (Fleming) Jarrett (Keith); and Carolyn Fleming. Carrie was very proud of her four great-grandchildren, Jalynn Frazier, Jhia Frazier, Janay Blackwell and Jaxon Keith; one great great-grandchild, Javen Hart; a beloved nephew, Michael West; two devoted nieces, Audrey (Ozzie) Fleming and Carmen (Micki) Fleming-Forniss; a dear friend, Edna Collier and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
