Charles Richard “Rick” Grubbs passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at home in Douglasville, GA after a prolonged illness with COPD and heart disease. He was born in Augusta, GA on September 10, 1952. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Marsha (Wright) Grubbs of Flatwoods, KY; brother, Gerald Grubbs (Reba); sisters, Johnnie Grubbs Smallwood and Linda Grubbs Shultz, of Flatwoods, KY. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mollie Marie (Dillow) Grubbs; daughter, Ashley Amanda Orio (Luca) of San Francisco, CA; son, Jeffrey Grubbs of Douglasville, GA. Three granddaughters, Courtney Marie Bass, Douglasville, GA; Aurilie (Lily) Bass, San Antonio, TX; Julianna Bass, San Francisco, CA.; one grandson yet to be born. Rick is also survived by four nephews; Jerry Frank Grubbs (Judith), Flatwoods, KY; Stephen Grubbs (Cecilia), Boston, MA & Destin, Fl; John Grubbs (Hannah), Flatwoods, KY; James Grubbs (Mariah) St. Charles, Louisiana. Rick was a 1971 graduate of Russell High School, Russell, Kentucky, and received a two-year degree in Electronics and Microwave communications. He retired from AT&T as a field engineer. He also worked in telecommunications for Bellsouth and Singular resulting in his family living in Kentucky, Texas, and Georgia. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the United States and Germany for nine years. Rick was trained as an aeronautics specialist in equipment repair and later served as a recruiter with the rank of Staff Sargent. Over the years, Rick pursued numerous hobbies including beekeeping, making crafted beer, exotic fish, woodworking, hydroponic gardening, building model planes, ammunition reloading, golfing, boating, and bowhunting to name a few. Rick was a man of many interests and talents. Due to the Covid 19 virus, there will be no memorial ceremony. Private interment will be held at a later date.
