Christopher J. Barone, age 74, of Canton, Georgia, died on Friday, December 23, 2022. He was born in Boise, Idaho, son of the late Salvatore “Sam” Barone and Mary Louise Thompson Barone. He also was preceded in death by his sister Carlene Barone Byroad, and brother-in-law Dr. Adolfo Fernandez. After 20 years in East Cobb County, Georgia, and 11 in McCormick, South Carolina (Savannah Lakes Village), Chris resided at The Arbor at BridgeMill for the past nine months. The residents and staff at The Arbor have been greatly supportive and loving during this time. His final months, despite his illnesses, were happy there.
The son of military parents, Chris grew up in El Paso, Texas, where he graduated from Andress High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970 as a naval air electronics technician. His service included two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his naval service he attended Whatcom Community College in the Bellingham/Ferndale, Washington area, where he lived until 1989. He was employed during this time at Intalco Aluminum Corporation (later Alcoa) as a Maintenance Electrician/Planner. He was employed for many years thereafter as a Consultant in Maintenance Planning Software for several companies including The System Works/Indus International in Marietta, Georgia. This work included travels to many international manufacturing facilities (Hong Kong, Mexico, South America, Qatar, Thailand).
Always an avid reader, Chris enjoyed many hobbies including astronomy, metal working, automobile restoration, Corvettes, and computers (from their earliest days). He dearly loved his children and his three small terriers, Punky, Rusty Dickens, and Teddy.
Chris is survived by his wife of almost 33 years, Donna Sayler Barone, whom he met by chance while working a strike at Intalco’s sister plant in Frederick, Maryland. Both he and Donna considered their meeting to have been the luckiest event of their lives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sharman Barone Carter (husband Jeremy) of Woodstock, Georgia, and John Joseph Barone (wife Whitney) of Marietta, Georgia. He also leaves behind four grandchildren (Hayley Carter, Jennsen Carter, Chelsea Burke, and John Joseph Barone, Jr.), one great grandchild, Kennedy Burke, two sisters, Paula Fernandez of El Paso, Texas and Patrice Rapisand (husband David) of Fort Worth, Texas, a niece and four nephews. In addition, the mother his two children, Laura Hanson Barone Wikstrom, and her husband, Greg Wikstrom of Woodstock, Georgia/Bellingham, Washington, have helped round out Chris’ extended family and have been very supportive during Chris’ illnesses.
Chris’ remains will be placed at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, following a private family ceremony in a few weeks.
