Cynthia “Goldie” McCreary, was born to the union of James and Ruby Pinkard on April 5, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan. As the first born, Cynthia truly loved being big sister to her brothers James "Sonny Love" Pinkard (who proceeded her in death) and Omari Kali. She also had life-long bonds to her brothers wives, Sylvia (Sonny) and Pearl (Omari). Goldie was educated in the Detroit Public School system and graduated from North Eastern High School. As a teen in 1957, she met and fell in love with the true love of her life, Joseph McCreary. They became one in 1960. Cynthia and Joseph were soulmates. And although he proceeded her in death, she remained a faithful wife to him. Through this union they were blessed with three daughters - her beloved eldest, Rosalyn (who proceeded her in death), Crystal and Shannon. For her, family was the absolute center of her world. Goldie was a beautiful wife and mother who truly enjoyed life, love and the helping in raising with her husband Joseph - her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her other two loves were her toy poodle dogs - Old Man and Angel (and babies TI, Shadow and Tiny). As she embarked upon her working career, she was a trailblazer, becoming the first black woman to work at Kern's Department Store in Downtown Detroit. As her children grew, she pursued a career in dentistry and worked for years as a dental hygienist. Her final career change transitioned to finance (department) where she worked and retired from Wayne State University. Her final days were spent with her "baby girl" Shannon. Cynthia "Goldie" was loved by many. Her contagious smile, infectious laughter, and golden blonde hair made her unforgettable. She loved to entertain with music and "her lights", where she gave private concerts and spent many hours listening to her favorite songs with those she loved so much. Cynthia never met a 'stranger'. And far too great to mention, she impacted the lives of many and cherished relationships that spanned months to decades (you know who you are). At the age of 81 and having enjoyed a full wonderful life, Cynthia fell ill during the month of November 2020 and after a strong fight, she transitioned on December 11, 2020. Cynthia leaves a legacy to honor and cherish her memory: her brother Omari Kali (Pearl), her two daughters Crystal Valenzuela (David) of Monterey Park, California and Shannon McCreary (Darryl) of Atlanta, Georgia; her grandchildren: Larry Mell McCreary, Cynthia Chartese McCreary, Asia Whitaker Taylor (Nick), Sarah Whitaker, Angela Whitaker, Jessica Whitaker and Ian Maurice McCreary; greatgrandchildren: Justin Lawson, Mary Carnes, Davion and Danayah McCreary, Rosalyn Chartese McCreary-Glaze, Kenriek Jeffrey McCreary, Xavier Day Whitaker, Liam Taylor, Chase Prince McCreary and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She loved and was loved by so many and now she rests in God’s abiding love and peace.
