David Paul Lane

September 22, 1937 — July 8, 2024

David Paul Lane, age 86 of Fayetteville, Georgia passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024. Pam Taylor, his friend of 52 years, was faithfully by his side. He was born in Golden Pond, Kentucky on September 22, 1937 to Preston White Lane and Lora Dale Leneave Lane. His brother, Preston, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Lane Drake (Samuel) of Gilbert, South Carolina.

Paul and his family moved to Hornbeak, Tennessee in 1949 where he graduated from Hornbeak High School in 1955. After high school Paul worked several jobs before he began work at Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, Georgia. He excelled at mechanical troubleshooting and began classes to further his education, graduating with a business degree. This gave him promotional opportunities at Delta, retiring as General Foreman – Quality Control in 1989. Wanting to advance himself further, while working full time, Paul also opened The Silver Key shop at Greenbriar Mall and he ran it successfully for many years.

Always one to be learning and interested in people, Paul traveled the world making a vast array of friends along the way. His plan was to visit every continent to learn its history, culture and especially cuisine.

His entrepreneurial spirit allowed him to build a real estate portfolio of properties in the greater Atlanta area. He was a shrewd negotiator. With his mechanical abilities he was able to refurbish and maintain the properties.

Paul delighted in sharing his life with others and became the host to the Lane Family holiday events. The Lane family is known for slow cooking barbecue ribs and he graciously provided a place for the family to gather, reminisce and make new memories together. He had the unique ability to locate the most ripe and sweet cantaloupe to accompany most meals and he felt a meal or evening was not quite complete without a scoop of ice cream. That was symbolic of his life goal, to learn and lead with charm and hospitality plus enjoy adventures and opportunities that came his way.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Patricia Reece (Inita), Chesterfield, Missouri; son, David Lane (Melissa) of Brooks, Georgia; son, Jerry Lane, Red Boiling Springs Tennessee. He was a proud grandfather to Preston Lane (Amber), O’Fallon, Illinois; Justin Lane (Jacy) Senoia, Georgia; Melissa Marie Kent, (Jason) Griffin, Georgia; Jeremiah Lane (Maribel) Dalton, Georgia and Anna Lane, Watertown, Tennessee. He is also survived by six great grandchildren Erica, Kay, Brian, Michael, Harper and Harrison.

His final resting place will be in Hematite Cemetery, Trigg County, Kentucky. It is located on Lake Barkley and close to Paul’s grandmother, Florence Taylor Lane’s birthplace at Taylor Bay and his grandfather Grant Lane’s family farm.

Paul lived a life with zest and walked with his friends during anguish and excitement and always provided a safe spot to rest and remember his roots. He was a Mason for 57 years in College Park, Ga. Lodge No. 454.
