Don Lamar Gilman

Don Lamar Gilman of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on January 6, 2023 at his home surrounded by his adoring family.

Don was born July 25, 1946 in Panama City, Florida to Everette Lavell and Susie Lee Gilman. He was preceded in death by both parents and his wife Carolyn (Callahan) Gilman.

Don served time in the US Army, but those who knew Don best knew he was a retired long-distance heavy haul truck driver who loved the open road. He worked many years for Mayfield Trucking in Mableton, GA and made many lifelong friends while there. Don retired eventually from Southeastern Trucking. Even after retirement, he was often travelling to visit friends and family. If there was a fishing spot on the way, you might find him there. He loved taking all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on their first fishing experiences and was known to make them kiss the first fish they caught. Don’s laughter was contagious and his personality could light up any room he was in. He was outgoing and adventurous, but also very humble and kind. He would always put himself last if it meant someone else would benefit.

Don loved the Lord and wanted his life to be a testimony to those who had doubts or shortcomings in their faith. He truly believed that the Lord had blessed him and wanted to share his experience with all he met.

Don is survived by his siblings and their spouses; Beverly Griffin, Lavell “Buddy” Gilman (Gemma), Barbara “Babs” Wilterding (Charles), Marcus Gilman (Kimberly). He is also survived by his children and their spouses; Terri Carlson (Christopher), Melissa Shephard, Javon Lane (Tony), Natasha Swint (Robbie), Shane Gilman (Tracy). Don’s grandchildren were the highlight of his life and they include: Diana, Joshua, Jared, Kristin, Kevin, Kristy, Trey, Rayna, Ramia, Rylin, Cameron, and Bray. There is a multitude of great-grandchildren that Don is survived by as well.

There will be a Celebration of Life to memorialize Don on February 18, 2023 at 5 PM. The service will take place at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Carrollton. 335 Oak Grove Road, Carrollton, GA 30117.
