Donald Arthur King

April 1, 1952 — March 5, 2025

Donald (“D.A.”) Arthur King left this life and his work for the nation that he loved confident that he has done his best. Survived by his best friend, love of his life and undeserved gift-from-heaven wife of 42 years, Sue Lanier King AKA “Angel Girl”, D.A. passed on peacefully after a private battle with cancer.

D.A. was the son of Frank William “Bill” King and Margaret Jeannine Powley, originally of Detroit, Michigan.

“Once a Marine, always a Marine” - D.A. was always visibly proud of his service and his honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps (1970-1976). While he attended school in a variety of locales growing up, when asked “where are you from?” he was quick to happily reply “Madison Heights!” in reference to his home during his high school years. D.A. was in the class of 1969 at Lamphere High School in that metro Detroit suburb.

Known as a “yardsman,” with his sidewalk garden and resulting homegrown tomatoes and peppers, D.A. produced bumper crops every year for the 40 years he and Sue lived in the only house they ever owned. There were always two much-loved cats in the yard. He took great pride in that expansive, tree-filled yard and the leaf-shaded back deck where they relaxed and entertained at what he cheerfully referred to as “El Rancho King” in Marietta.

D.A. described himself as “pro-enforcement” on immigration and borders, an issue on which he dedicated the last 21 years of his life as an expert activist, writer and public speaker.

In lieu of flowers, D.A. requested donations to the National Border Patrol Council Local 2544, Tucson, Arizona or the U.S. Marines Heritage Foundation in his memory.
