Dorothy D. Harris

September 25, 1940 — February 3, 2022

Dorothy “Dot” Kay Jones Harris, age 81, of Woodstock, died on February 3, 2022, after a brief illness (complications from Covid). She leaves a legacy of devotion to her family and friends. Dot was born on September 25, 1940, in Bellingham, Washington, to Harry Edwin Jones and Martha Mae Jones (Gosney). After graduating from Broughton High School in Raleigh in 1958, Dot attended East Carolina College graduating in 1962 with a degree in Elementary Education. Some may have speculated she also had a minor in shag dancing based on the amount of time she spent dancing on the Carolina coast. After a couple years teaching, she became a stay at home mother raising her three children. Later, as a single mom, she went back to work to support her family. She spent many years in retail with Sears and ended her career with Haverty’s. She was known by all for her love of baking cakes and would often bake for co-workers’ birthdays, neighborhood gatherings, and all family holidays. She was an avid reader and was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan for the almost 50 years she lived in the Atlanta area. If there was a game on, you can be sure her TV would be tuned in. She is survived by her devoted family: daughter Debbie of Smyrna; son Chris (Charlene) of Woodstock; daughter Paula of Marietta, granddaughters Nikki Daniels of Atlanta and Rebecca Bailey of Denver, sister Carol Newman of Lawrenceville and brother Bill Jones(Anita) of Camilla. She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Martha, her husband, George Harris and her brother Robert (Bob) Jones. Donations in Dorothy’s honor are welcome and can be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choosing that is important to you. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on April 10th, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Daniels’ Residence at 1115 Rowe Rd., Woodstock, Georgia 30188.
