Jurell S. Strawn passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on May 17, 2023, at her home in Dunwoody, GA after a recurring battle with cancer along with dementia.

Jurell was born on December 6, 1941, to Martha Irene Mathews and Harry James Austin Smith in Augusta, GA. As a young girl she moved with her family to Port Royal, SC before returning back to Augusta, GA. In 1962, Jurell married James “Jim” Micheal Strawn Sr in a ceremony in Williston, SC. In 1968, they moved their family to Hollywood, Fla. They had two children together, which gave Jurell eight beautiful grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Jurell is survived by one of her two sons, James Micheal Strawn (Stephanie McCall Strawn). Jurell’s youngest son Bryan “Keith” Strawn passed away only four days after her at the age of 58 after an 8+ year battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy.

Jurell was a loving and devoted mother, and her two children were the central figures in her life. She always encouraged her sons, and others, about the importance of getting a higher education and to choose a career based on passion and what you love. Jurell was extremely artistic and talented and loved to draw, paint, and photograph nature, in particular clouds. Her talent can be seen throughout her home hanging on the the walls. She had a very fulfilled, blessed life and is now resting peacefully in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday June 3rd at 10am at Mission Creek Community Church in Sandy Springs, GA and family and friends are welcome. Later, Jurell will be buried next to her mother and father in Douglas, GA.
