Our beloved Francisco “Frank” Antonio Montane, 65, of Covington, GA passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023, after a brief battle with kidney cancer. He was born in Havana, Cuba on April 11, 1958, to Francisco and Nelia Montane. His family came to the U.S. when he was eight.
He was also preceded in death by his loving aunts, Gloria, Elina, and Margarita.
Frank completed his degree in opticianry at Hillsborough College in FL. Being a Licensed Optician was his calling, and he was happily employed in the field for over 45 years. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves, cooking picadillo, Volkswagen campers, walking barefoot, and feeding the neighborhood’s stray cats. Frank enjoyed traveling, especially beach vacations. His penchant for collecting and reading travel brochures often led him to many hidden gem locations that others missed. Among his loved ones, Frank was known for his kindness, never passing by a stranger in need.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years, Julie, along with his children, Manda Montane, Gabriel Montane, and Joseph Woodruff (Lindsay Scott), and his grandchildren, Noah, Jakob, Elijah, Rosalia, and Elina. He is also survived by his sister, Norma (Eddie) Daves; brothers-in-law, Mark Fox, and John (Meghan) Fox; and sister-in-law, Bernadette (Jonathan) Swinkunas, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kidney Cancer Association: https://www.kidneycancer.org/
The family would like to extend special thanks to Diane St.Clair and Sam Wheelock for their support during Frank’s illness.
