The Man, The Myth, The Legend June 18, 1959 - July 14, 2019 Fred Barwise, the Man, the Myth, the Legend. Men wanted to be him and women wanted to be with him. Frederick Joseph Barwise II died at home in the arms of his beloved wife, Deborah. Fred loved sushi, good cigars, movies, music, Krispy Kreme donuts, the beach, the mountains, family, friends, cruises, camping, backpacking, hiking, fishing, traveling and adventures of all sorts. Not necessarily in that order. He hated pity, ignorance, hypocrites and being the cause of anyone's tears. Not necessarily in that order. Fred would like you to know that his work here is done. He is grateful for the lessons he's learned and the love he's been shown, especially during his last 2 years, two months, two weeks, two days. But he received a call, a sort of an offer you can't refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning, at least not in a form we will recognize. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus: a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. Job security and satisfaction is exactly 110 percent. His new mission takes him to a wonderful place where he will be socializing, laughing and doing all the things he loves to his heart's content. Music, laughter, and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and abundant, and he'll never gain an ounce. The air is sweeter, the water clearer, flowers more fragrant, and the sky more blue with a clear view to watch over his loved ones still awaiting their own call. He left detailed instructions for his wife to celebrate his mission here, which has now been completed. Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated and she is expected to comply fully. Weary of reading obituaries noting someone's courageous battle with death, Fred wanted it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, living large and raising hell for more than six decades. He enjoyed booze, cigars and his sweet wife until the day he died. Please join us in celebrating his life at a memorial service on Saturday, August 10, 2019, on The 19th Green at The Lake Spivey Country Club in Jonesboro at 10:30 a.m. Fred would hope that you will remember him by savoring what you have and by doing an unexpected and unsolicited (even anonymous) act of kindness for some poor, unfortunate soul in his name.
