Gary Lee Simmons

February 20, 1956 — September 18, 2024

Gary Lee Simmons, 68, of Buford, GA, ended his long battle with COPD on September 18, 2024.

Gary was born to Clara and Arthur Simmons in DeKalb County, GA. He was the youngest of four siblings. From a very young age, he held a love for music. His favorite pastime as a teenager was listening to his vast collection of records on the record player. Later in life, Gary was part of a beloved newsgroup where he was fondly known as “The Music Man.” So many have shared that his selection of music would often brighten a down spirit or lighten a mood. As one person recounted, “Gary Simmons was the most positive, music-loving, and fun person to be around.”

Gary believed in God and was a faithful servant. He played the box drums with his local church. Those who knew him said that he was a champion for Jesus. He enjoyed being a part of his church community and doing outreach whenever possible. And he is now in the loving arms of Jesus and completely healed and whole again!

He is preceded in death by his mother, Clara Simmons; his father, Arthur Simmons; his brothers, Charles and David Simmons; his sister, Audrey Phillips; and his great nephew, Elijah Parker. He is survived by his nieces Charline Parker-Bregartner (Lou), Amanda Rogers, and Sarah Bryan; Nephews, Jeremy Simmons and Justin Satterfield (Maragret); A great niece Jessica Thetford; and a great nephew, Cameron Parker. He also leaves behind cousins and friends who are like family, his church community, and his beloved 11Alive community.
