George Donald Ashford

George D. Ashford was born in Joplin, Missouri on January 22, 1932. He served in the United States Army before attending the University of Missouri where he received his master's degree and was a Certified Public Accountant until he retired in 2015. He was very proud of carrying on the family tradition of serving in Military. His father served in the Army and Navy. 3 of his 5 brothers served in the Navy, 1 served in the Army and 1 served the Coastguard and Airforce - George served stateside in Army during the Korean War. He loved to read, fly (he was 2 lessons away from obtaining his private flying license) and garden. He maintained a garden of tomatoes, potatoes, beans, and squash until August 2018 He was an avid Braves baseball fan and UGA Football fan. He supported Donald Trump and was not shy about letting everyone know we needed to Make America Great Again. He enjoyed traveling and his travels took him to the Bahamas, Hawaii, Guyana, French Guyana, Ecuador, Panama, England, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and several other countries. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Louise Ashford; his 2 daughters, Julie Ashford Escarcega, Jennifer Mansel, his stepson Mac Bailey and his brother Gerald " Jerry" Ashford, sister-in-law Betty Ashford and sister-in-law Patricia Ashford. George had 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren with a 5th on the way, and many nieces and nephews. He loved his family and enjoyed visits from all. He was not shy about telling you - to visit him more often.
