George Graham Ardell

December 17, 1928 — February 23, 2024

George Graham Ardell, 95, passed into the arms of his creator on February, 23rd, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 17th, 1928 in Williamsport, PA, but grew up and spent most of his life in the hills of West Virginia.

He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1951 and serving at the end of the Korean War. He left the navy in 1955 to attend MIT where he achieved a masters degree in electrical engineering. He then returned to his home state and worked at Union Carbide in South Charleston, WV, until his retirement in 1997. He also achieved a masters degree in mathematics from WVU and tutored math on the side. He moved to Atlanta, GA in 2017 and resided with his daughter Jennifer until his passing.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and Herbert S. Ardell; his wife, Elizabeth S. Ardell, and his son George G. Ardell, II. He is survived by his brother, Herbert S. Ardell; his daughters, Kathryn Meyer (Ralph), Kimberly Hamden (Michael), Jennifer Keller (Frank), and daughter-in-law Emelyn Ardell, as well as 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. George was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a remarkable man and will be deeply missed by friends and family alike.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in his name to Capstone Hospice of Atlanta, who made the final weeks bearable for both George and the family caring for him. They are heroes in our hearts. We would also ask you to hold your family members tight, because even 95 years is not nearly enough time to hold onto someone that you love as much as we loved him.
