George Crolius, 90, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
He was born April 30, 1934, and was the son of the (late) George S. and Susan D. Crolius.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife Yvonne Crolius and son Joseph Crolius.
George’s love of Big Band music drew him to wind instruments. During the Korean War, he served in the US Navy and played in the Navy Band.
After his time in the Navy, George graduated from the University of Florida, majoring in Broadcasting and Journalism. He enjoyed a lengthy career as a TV newscaster in the greater Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. He was later prevailed upon to become Chief Spokesperson for the Broward County Sheriff’s office, during the major drug increase of the 1980’s. He retired from the Sheriff’s office 16 years later.
George was an avid tennis player his entire life, and continued to play the game well into his 70’s. He also enjoyed cooking, acting, and singing in his church choir.
George was a loving husband, father and grandfather, active in his church, and a lifelong Miami Dolphins and Heat fan, even though he lived in Georgia for the past 20 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gayle, daughters Loretta and Patti, son John (Letisia), grandson Michael, and granddaughters Lauren and Jennifer.
