Gerald Eugene Guiberson

July 30, 1937 — September 30, 2021

Gerald Eugene (Gary) Guiberson, 84, went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2021 after a brief illness. Gary was born in Chehalis, a small farming and logging town in the state of Washington on July 30, 1937. His parents were Fred Eugene Guiberson and Roxie Marie Nickell Guiberson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Marie Conley Guiberson in September, 2018, his brother-in-law, Bob Fenner as well as brothers-in law, Walter and Jimmy Conley, his sister-in-law, Sadie Sills. He is survived by his children and grandson, Ann Marie Guiberson (Dennis), Jason Brian Guiberson and Sean Matthew Dennis. Other survivors include his sister Dawn Fenner, nieces Heidi and Heather and his wife’s brother, sisters and many nieces and nephews. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces with and honorary discharge on December 31, 1962. He continued his service to our country with 32 years of distinguished service as a civil servant. During his long and distinguished service career, Gary received many awards and letters of commendation for his dedication and service. He retired from the Department of Defense on March 31, 1994. At the beginning of his career, Gary was assigned to the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga. It was while he was in Albany that he met his wife, Eunice Marie Conley. They were married on June 10, 1967. Gary and Eunice continued their family life in Albany and were very active in their church, volunteer work and in the community. Gary was well respected at work, at home as the head of his family and in their church and neighborhood. He was very proud of his family with the birth of his daughter, Ann Marie and four years later, his son, Jason. In 1981, Gary moved with his family to Burke, Virginia to continue his service with the Department of Defense at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He continued his work there until his retirement on March 31, 1994. Gary and Eunice moved with their family to Woodstock, Georgia in July, 1995. Even though Gary had a long and distinguished career, he continued working because he enjoyed being among co-workers and interacting with the public. He was with both Radio Shack and AirTouch Cellular for several years before enjoying full retirement. Jason remembers with a smile one thing most about his Dad – he seemed to have a knack for finding things that had been misplaced or lost around the house. If the family couldn’t find an item, it was Gary who had the uncanny ability to find it. Jason also remembers that he loved to “fix” things. If it was broken, he always seemed to be able to fix it. He and his grandson, Sean, loved working together to take things apart and figure out how they worked. They also shared a love for the Seattle Seahawks and watching their games. Sean loves computers and enjoyed talking about different types of computers with his Grandad and since Gary worked with complicated computer systems throughout his career, he had a treasure trove of knowledge to pass on to Sean. He also shared his knowledge of cars and how to repair them with his grandson. One of Ann’s favorite memories is going fishing with her Dad when she was younger. She also loved when Gary took her for rides on his motorcycle. She had her own helmet so he made sure she was safe riding with him. Ann remembers that he even once took her for her dental appointment on the back of his beloved motorcycle. Gary loved amateur photography and owned many different types of cameras and equipment. He was especially fond of landscapes, old barns and houses and, of course, taking photos of his family. One of Ann’s favorite pictures is of her and her Dad standing on the front porch of their home in Albany. Gary used tripods to make sure he could have memories of himself in the pictures with his family. Ann’s very favorite, though, is the photo taken by a different photographer. She will always cherish the picture of her and her Dad at her wedding in 2004. Gary had a love for anything from times past. One of his favorite past-times was poking around in antique and thrift stores and bringing home things to work with even if they were broken. He would sometimes “sneak” them into the basement because he knew Eunice might not be happy to see yet another sewing machine or bread maker brought home. He would head to the basement and if she asked what he was planning to do, he would tell her he was going down to the basement and would be “piddling” around. Of course, she knew what that probably meant. He loved many music genres but especially gospel, big band and the oldies. He collected old records and music. Gary and Eunice shared 51 years of marriage before she went to be with the Lord in 2018. They both loved their little family most and even shared that love with the pups who shared space with them over the years. Gary especially had a soft spot in his heart for Dachshunds including the latest ones in their family – Ann’s little Ruby and Tiki. He didn’t limit his fondness, though. He certainly enjoyed holding, loving and cuddling Jason’s chihuahua, Phoebe. Gary proved to be a strong faith leader in their family and helped many in the ministries in which he participated including teaching and music. He loved his family with a quiet strength and Eunice, Ann, Jason and Sean always knew of his love for them because of all the ways he shared with them. He is now reunited with Eunice and they are praising their Lord Jesus Christ as a unit once again.
