We celebrate the home going of our mom, mother, momma, mimi & wife (sweetheart), Gwen Carter Stepp. She is now resting in peace with her Lord and Savior, having left behind all the pain and suffering of the past six years. Gwen is the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. John D. Carter. She was born in Forsyth, GA on July 19, 1941 at the home of her maternal grandparents, Martin and Amanda Coulon. In 1963 she met and married the love of her life, Melvin Stepp of Armuchee, GA. To them were born two precious daughters, Tonya and Melanie. She was Mimi to her four much loved grandchildren: Jonathan, Stephanie, Taylor and Cody. Gwen was a graduate of Clinch County High School and Carroll Lynn School of Business Administration. Her career with Darlington School spanned 30 years, serving as secretary to Associate Headmaster, Worth Moser and the Headmaster, Brad Gioia. She retired from Darlington while serving as Upper School Registrar. Gwen and her husband were active in the music ministry at the Armuchee Church of God where she served as choir pianist for 35 years. Gwen is survived by her husband, Melvin Stepp, Armuchee, daughter Tonya Austin (Al) Rome, daughter Melanie Abney (Keith) Armuchee, and four grandchildren, Jonathan Austin, Stephanie Austin, Cody Abney, Taylor Abney Pledger (Trey). Also, two very special friends, Martha Jo Baldwin and Krista Stover. Gwen will be celebrated in an intimate family gathering on Saturday, February 12, at her home in Armuchee, Georgia. Rev. John Moates and Rev. Charles Izell will bring words of comfort and prayer to the family. She chose cremation, with her ashes to be held until one day, joined by her sweetheart, her family will then spread their ashes together at a place that she and he chose together.
