Helen E. Schatler-Grandinetti-Corbett

May 27, 1937 — February 22, 2021

Helen E. Schatler-Grandinetti-Corbett of Woodstock, Georgia passed away on the morning of Monday February 22, 2021 at the age of 83. She died peacefully at home with her loving son Frank by her side. During her 83 years, Helen Corbett lived a complex life; she faced many challenges, fought many demons, had many adventures and wore many uniforms. The Corbett and McCoy families invite you to join them in a celebration of Helen’s life on; Saturday March 13th at 1 pm in the VCCI clubhouse located at 103 Myrtle Rd. Woodstock, Georgia 30189. Helen is survived by her devoted children: Son Frank Corbett and daughter in-law, Marie Corbett of Marietta, Georgia. Daughter Eileen Corbett-McCoy, son in-law Mike McCoy, grandson Mike McCoy Jr. of Houston, Texas and her half-brother, Joseph Grandinetti of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ms. Corbett is predeceased by her father, mother, stepfather, half-sister Jayne Schatler and husband, Frank W. Corbett. Born into a blue-collar family in northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Helen was the daughter of Electrician James Schatler and housewife/bar-maid Helen M. Dufault-Schatler. Ms. Corbett’s early childhood was steeped in the German Irish working class culture of her parents. She grew up in a small, pre-war, row house in Philadelphia’s rugged 35th ward. Helen shared her childhood home with not only her Mother and Father, but her paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather as well. While living conditions were cramped, Helen enjoyed being the center of attention. As a young girl Helen would accompany her mother to work in a local bar. Ms. Corbett frequently said that she was raised in an Irish Pub and reflected fondly on the many lessons she learned there. She would often make ham and cheese sandwiches for customers or perform on the bar for tips. By the age of ten, she had become the pub’s unofficial mascot. It was here that “Hell-on-Wheels-Helen” developed her biting sardonic wit, street smarts, fondness for wine and her quirky sense of adventure. In lieu of flowers and cards please consider a contribution to the Anna Crawford Children’s Center of Woodstock, Georgia in memory of Helen. The Corbett and the McCoy families will be matching your donations.
