John P. Nowell, age 79 of Cumming, Georgia passed away on January 2, 2021. He was born on June 27th in Athens, GA, and was the son of the late George Lewis Nowell, Sr. and Mary Ruth Garrison Nowell of Dublin, GA. John enjoyed playing trombone in the Dublin High School band and playing guitar and singing in his spare time. After high school, John joined the Air Force and served his country with pride from 1959-64. After his military service, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in political science and later attended John Marshall Law School where he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence. He retired from General Motors Corporation after 30 years of service. John was very gregarious and truly a lover of people who made everyone feel special. He put his love for God and his family above all else and embraced the local Baptist church in each community he lived. John achieved many things in his life including being a pilot, a world traveler, and a church deacon. John enjoyed researching family history, as well as Southern history. He loved being physically active working out with his Silver Sneakers and Zumba groups. John was a loving son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend who had a smile and personality that would light up a room. The world is a dimmer place without him in it. He is survived by his loving family including his daughter Deanna Nowell, his grandson Erik Nowell, and siblings; Lewis Nowell, Jr., Amelia Nowell Landsman, Robert Nowell, Lester Nowell, and Gina Nowell Holmes, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. A graveside service will be held at Northview Cemetery in Dublin, Georgia. He will be interred next to his parents on Saturday, January 9th, 2021. A second memorial service will be held at his annual family reunion in Panama City, Florida, during Labor Day weekend 2021; besides being with his family and friend, being at the beach brought him so much joy and happiness
