Joyce S. Green

September 11, 1934 — March 1, 2020

Joyce S. Green, 85, most recently of Monroe, GA and formerly of Marietta, GA, passed from life to Life on March 1, 2020. Joyce was born on September 11, 1934, in Marietta, GA to the late Ellie Ruth Smith and Kenneth Eugene Smith. She is also preceded in death by her husband George D. Green, brother Robert E. Smith, Sr, and nephew Robert E. Smith, Jr. She is survived by son Dennis Green (Brenda) of Richmond, VA; daughter Kelly Kraus (Bruce) of Snellville, GA; grandchildren Leah Simpson (Trae), Denny Green, Kevin Kraus, Gretchen Kraus, and Karl Kraus; great-grandsons Noah and Kane Simpson; nieces Sandra Glenn of Wake Forest, NC and Debbie Christie of Akron, OH; nephew Ken Smith of Flagler Beach, FL; and numerous grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and wonderful friends. After graduating from Marietta High School in 1952, Joyce moved to downtown Atlanta to room with friends in an all-female boarding house to take a secretarial position in a law firm. Her ensuing impactful career as an administrative professional spanned a broad array of industries/companies including Lockheed, Jones Refrigeration, Triton Oil, and culminating in retirement in 1999 from Yellow Freight Corporation as Puerto Rico Operations Coordinator. Joyce was a culinary artist, an avid and strategic card player (Bridge was her specialty), and a highly determined fisherwoman who loved to entertain friends and family. An event hosted by Joyce and George was always sure to include something scrumptiously delicious for the palate and something fun and uplifting for the soul. Travel adventures were key to their enjoyment of retired life, highlighted by a 3-month tour by RV around the entire lower 48 U.S. states. When not traveling and hosting, Joyce and George spent precious hours fishing together on the Atlantic intercoastal canal behind their retirement home in Flagler Beach, FL. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, Mar 7 at Loganville First United Methodist Church, 221 Main Street, Loganville, GA. Visitation with the family will be at 11 am and service at 12noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation (https://www.rls.org/donate-now).
