Lenn Ella Thompkins, 79, Battle Creek, Michigan passed away on March 29, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia. Lenn was born April 27, 1943 in Lamar County, Alabama to Lenard Trimuel and Edna (Whitt) Young. Lenn was raised in Columbus, Mississippi, and spent a lot of cherished time with her grandmother Mrs. Ida Mae Whitt. She graduated from Hunt High in Columbus, MS, and briefly attended college in Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1960, she moved to Battle Creek, MI, and in 1964 her son Vincent J. Thompkins was born from her union to Richard Thompkins. Lenn was employed by the federal government for 31 years; she started her career with the Veterans Administration Hospital and later transferred to the Social Security Administration. After retirement, Lenn began transcribing historical recordings for the Willard Library in Battle Creek. Lenn was an avid golfer and bowler, belonging to several leagues throughout the years. Lenn was a lover of the English language, History, and Crossword Puzzles. Lenn’s love for family was her foremost priority. She selflessly cared for her mother and grandmother in their golden years. However, Lenn’s number one priority was for her beloved son Vincent Thompkins. Lenn departed this life on Tuesday, March 29th at the Southwest Christian Care Hospice in Atlanta, Georgia. She was proceeded in death by her mother Edna M. Young, sister Marie Thompkins, grandmother Ida Mae Whitt and lifelong partner Joe Rodgers. She leaves to cherish her memory, son Vincent J. Thompkins of Atlanta, Georgia, brothers; John Finch, Gid Neal both of Battle Creek, Michigan; special niece and caregiver Mary Whitt, nephew Jerry Lewis of Battle Creek, Michigan; eleven nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Lenn’s honor to her favorite charity United Negro College Fund (UNCF), or the Alzheimer's Association
