Lynne Cunningham Hewett

DECATUR, Georgia -- Lynne Cunningham Hewett, 68, passed away September 21, 2021, from a COVID-related breakthrough infection. Lynne was born May 8, 1953, in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School in 1971. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia. She worked as a senior structural draftsman at Entech Engineering. She married attorney Tim Hewett and then dedicated her life to raising her four children. She loved horseback riding, calligraphy, art and design, cooking, and music. She was an intelligent woman with a witty sense of humor. Life handed her many challenges, but she met them head-on with strength and grace. Lynne was an animal lover and never met a dog she was unable to spoil rotten. She is survived by; her children, Daniel Hewett (Celia) of China, Chris Hewett (Jenna) of Jacksonville, Florida; Lauren Dodson (Shaun) of Tucker, Georgia and Jennifer Hewett of Beaufort, South Carolina; six grandchildren; sisters Lisa Cunningham of Fiddletown, California, and Kathy Mellette of Gainesville, Georgia; cousins, nieces and nephews, and many loyal and loving friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Marian Cunningham. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, September 26, at North Decatur Presbyterian Church, 611 Medlock Road, Decatur, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the following organizations near and dear to the family’s heart: North Decatur Presbyterian Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 950 East Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30326. The family would like to thank her medical staff at Emory University Hospital in Decatur for providing excellent and compassionate care until the end.
