Manuel Cruz, 62, resident of Acworth, GA passed away at Assured Hospice of Cartersville, GA on Sunday April 5th 2020, after a battle with cancer & Parkinson’s Disease. Manuel was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico right in his mother’s home on June 4th 1957 to the late Pedro & Alicia Cruz. Manuel moved to the United States in 1958 as a baby with his parents, 2 brothers, Pete & Radames & sister, Carmen. He was a resident of Stamford, CT for 45 years. He attended Stevens Elementary, Turn of River Middle School & graduated from Rippowam Highschool in 1975. Following Highschool, Manuel worked for Clairol. In 1979, he began dating his wife, Corina Cruz & they were married September 5, 1981 at St. Mary’s Church. They went on to have 4 children from 1983 to 1995. Manuel worked for AKG Acoustics, Mont Ward Real Estate & the Stamford Board of Education for 15 years. Manuel was a mastered & skilled Carpenter. It was his passion & he took on residential projects for clients regularly. He was well known in Stamford for his incredible work. In 1997, He started his business Las Palmas Residential Remodeling. He transferred his business to the Atlanta Metropolitan area in 2003 & with the growing market, he began to transform homes & grow his business. He established life long clients & was very reputable. He would continue his work through 2019. Manuel was best known for his spirit & gift of making everyone laugh all the time. If you met him, you were smiling. He poured his vibrant personality into his family every day of his life. He loved being a Dad and even more becoming “Grandpa”. His family is blessed with jokes to last a lifetime. Manuel is survived by his wife & life companion, Corina Cruz; his sister, Carmen Sullivan; his children, Katie Zackery, Matthew Cruz, William Cruz, & Emily Sanchez; his grandchildren, Jacob Cruz, Dominic Zackery, Malachi Cruz, Callie Zackery, Wesley Zackery, Delilah Cruz, & Sadie Cruz. In addition to his parents, He was predeceased by his brothers Pete & Radames Cruz. Manuel was very proud of his Puerto Rican culture & roots. He wore his flag proudly and poured that pride into his family. His dream was to return to his island and live a simple life. May he rest in the sands of his people, La Isla de Encanto. Due to the pandemic regarding COVID-19, a traditional service is not possible currently. The family will handle a memorial service privately. A “Celebration of Life” will be scheduled for a later date. The family has entrusted Leaf Crematory during this time and a condolence message may be left for the family at leafcremation.com
