The family of Margaret Doerr Cain, aka “Peggy”, announces her passing on October 31, 2024. Peggy was born November 17, 1943 in Granite City, IL, but primarily grew up in Pennsylvania and New York. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Virginia Doerr, and a great-grandson, Harrison Buckner.
Although she had been in the hospital with an extended illness since the end of July, prior to that, she was very active and rarely sat still. She was active in her hobbies - she enjoyed gourmet cooking, sewing, was regularly crocheting or knitting, and especially loved time with her grandchildren and great-grandsons baking cookies or other confections!
In addition to baking cookies, she was also a very smart cookie! She had a varied career, working early on as a data processing clerk, bookkeeper, later as an auto-cad engineer, and owning her own machine embroidery business with her husband for 10 years.
She was a much loved wife, mom, Nana and Super Nana (great-grandmother)! She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ron Cain; her three children - Robert Cain (Alma) of Birmingham, Susan Campbell (Ernest) of Atlanta, and John Cain (Jennifer) of Enterprise, AL; her five grandchildren - Jamie Stagliano, Mary Buckner (Shane), Raven Dowling (Andy), Anna “Kat” Cain (Jack), and Claire Campbell; and four great-grandsons, Carson, Lawson, Charlie and Jaxson.
