Marilyn Grace Thompson

February 6, 1931 — October 23, 2021

Marilyn Thompson, née Rhodes, of Acworth, Georgia passed peacefully while surrounded by family at the age of 90 on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021. Born to Leslie Rhodes and Elsie Frey on February 6th, 1931, she quickly adopted the nickname Dusty, of which she shared with her father. She studied at The Ohio State University, and often affectionately recalled her love of socializing before completing her education at Stevens College. It was during her time at Stevens College that she met her former husband, and father to her three children, Vern Salter. She raised her three children, Sandra, Shelley, and Robert in Ohio and Michigan before ultimately moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1986 to be closer to her children and dear friends. During this next phase, she met and married Victor Thompson, her second husband, with whom she shared many loving years. A woman of beautiful complexity, with resilience beyond compare, she most enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, nearly always accompanied by a heavily iced gin martini. She was revered by all whom she encountered, including the various and multi-generation friends of her daughter and granddaughters, a true testament to her congeniality and allure. She arrives in Heaven meeting those she held dear, including her mother, father, husband (Victor), and daughter (Shelley). She is survived by her daughter (Sandra), son-in-law (Gary), son (Robert), grandchildren (Courtney, Kristen, Luke, Ashley, Lane, and Brock), and great-granddaughter, whom she absolutely adored (Noah). Her infectious energy will be desperately missed, and her legacy will be honored by her family and friends with loyalty and love matching the ferocity in which she loved others. A small service in accordance with her wishes will be held Sunday, October 31st.
