Marjorie E. Grossman, 93, of Woodstock GA, died on Friday, March 8, 2024. She was born July 31, 1930 in Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick Canada to Ernest & Ethel Mallock (nee Lahey). She married Norman W. Grossman Jr. on September 22, 1950 and they were wed 69 years until Norman’s passing in February 2020.
Surviving are her children Norman Grossman III of Woodstock GA and Sharon (James) Utych of Alpharetta GA; two grandsons, Stephen M. (Alexandra) Utych of Huntersville NC, Michael A. Utych of Roswell GA; two granddaughters, Erica L. (Kevin) Schomaker Cincinnati OH and Katherine E. (Matthew) Rochford of Ft. Drum NY; and six great grandchildren Margot Utych, Matthew Schomaker, Leah Schomaker, Ben Rochford, Riley Rochford and Margaret Rochford.
As a young girl, Marge spent many summers on Grand Manan with her maternal grandparents who ran the local island store and where her grandfather was the lighthouse keeper for Swallowtail Lighthouse. She always spoke of the love she had for the Bay of Fundy.
She attended Collingwood HS in Cleveland where she met her husband, Norman. She began a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Cleveland Ohio. As a young mother, there were frequent moves around the country due to Norm’s job where they lived in Ohio, Connecticut, Indiana, New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania and then settling in Georgia to be closer to their grandchildren. Marge was always active in the church. She had sung in the church choir in Connecticut, taught Sunday School, worked as a Nursery School Aide then Teacher at Our Savior in New Jersey, led several youth groups and worked on the Altar Guild. While in New Jersey, Marge & Norm opened up Sunshine Day Care where she also directed and taught. Upon moving to Georgia, Marge & Norm became members of Timothy Lutheran Church where they began working at the church’s foodbank, Timothy’s Cupboard. Marge ran the front of house of the Food Bank for many, many years and interacted with many of the clients.
Marge loved her work at the Food Bank and for her work she received the 2011 Cherokee County First Citizen Award. Upon retirement, she traveled with Norm on various road trips, enjoying most their road trip to San Clemente California where they were first married. She loved her dogs throughout her life but especially in her later years she loved her two Shelties and her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Cassie and Winston and lastly her dog Brooklyn who will remain with her son, Norman III.
She was also a talented artist who loved to paint in all mediums, especially acrylics and watercolors. In her younger years, she attended many juried art shows where several of her paintings were sold and awarded placements. She loved to paint seascapes, boats and light houses.
There will be no visitation and internment will be at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton GA.
