Michelle (Shelly) Cowart, age 54, of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away peacefully December 14, 2020 at her home. She was born Michelle Ann Laflamme on May 24, 1966 in Hollywood, Florida to Leo and Veronica Laflamme. The family moved to Georgia in 1980, where she graduated from Fayette County High School in 1984. Shelly was a classy, southern lady with a strong passion for taking care of others. She always brought the extended family and friends together for holidays and birthdays, with plenty of pool parties. She was the “Mother Hen” of her family and friends, always worrying and praying for them. She loved to shop and find that one perfect gift that represented what was going on in a person’s life. She made that person feel special no matter what the occasion. You never left her house without fresh eggs from their chicken coup, along with a verbal reminder for an upcoming event so you wouldn’t forget it. You knew you were extra special to Shelly when she used her wit and charm to tease you just enough to let out one of her infectious laughs, beautiful smiles or concerned grins. Shelly worked in the banking industry after high school as a teller at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Fayetteville and later at First State Bank in the bookkeeping department. But it was at a small diner in Stockbridge called Teddy’s, where Shelly worked as a waitress when she called on a customer that ultimately would become her husband. Married for 23 years, Jason and Shelly raised two boys of their own, but she made sure her stepchildren were loved just as much as her own. She was involved in several roles with the family heating and air business, focusing on the personal relationships with their customers. Shelly was a longtime member of Tara Baptist Church in Jonesboro, GA and was involved in multiple ministries. She was truly one who let her light shine that others would see Jesus through her. Some said she was a modern-day Mother Teresa showing God’s love and grace to everyone she met. Shelly served the Lord until the very end and forgot NO ONE, always giving to those she barely crossed paths with. She is survived by her husband Jason Junior Cowart, their sons Andrew James Cowart and Matthew Daniel Cowart, her stepchildren Kimberly (Josh) Stone, Cynthia Lee Harper, and Kenneth Jason Cowart, 5 grandchildren, her Sister-in-laws and Brother-in-laws Ronni (Mike) Corbin, Liz (Jim) Wesley, Robert Cowart, Larry (Linda) Cowart, Jimmy (Jennifer) Cowart, Lewis (Paula) Cowart, her parents Leo and Veronica Laflamme, her siblings Maria (Tim) Ayers, Michael (Irma) Laflamme, Monica (Steve) Slaughter, and several nieces and nephews that will miss her dearly. Shelly will be forever remembered by her loving family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Tara Baptist for the immediate family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which Shelly so dearly loved.
