Nancy Tucker Hazelrigs

December 3, 1934 — June 15, 2022

Our dear mother, Nancy T Hazelrigs, age 87, was called to her Heavenly home on June 15, 2022. She was a wonderful wife and mother who will be missed terribly. She was born on December 3, 1934, and was preceded in death by her much-loved husband of 56 years, James L Hazelrigs. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00 a. m. at the Douglasville First Baptist Church in Douglasville, GA. When she passed on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, it was at 5:07 p.m. and we knew where she was going first in Heaven. She always loved Wednesday night suppers at First Baptist Douglasville where she would visit with friends over coffee and apple pie. And so, on June 15 a special Wednesday night supper was being prepared. Her husband would be saving her a seat and her mother along with all of her aunts would be in the kitchen making all of the wonderful vegetables and deserts. Her dad would be making his famous fried chicken and her uncles would be preparing fish for the biggest fish fry ever. The cousins would setting the many tables. Afterwards, everyone would be sitting around talking about family and getting ready to go to Wednesday night Training Union class with Jesus. In the early years, Nancy grew up in several small towns in the southern part of Fulton County, Georgia and the one that she loved the most was Fairburn. Many times, she would point out the schools she attended, the little theater where she saw many a movie and where it was air conditioned. Her biggest landmark was a small building on the corner that she wanted us to see was where her dad had his grocery store where she would help out and also go in to ask for candy after her mom said no. She first attended Campbell High School in Fairburn and then transferred and graduated from Russell High School in East Point, Ga. and from there attended Georgia State University. After she married, she was a homemaker who volunteered at Conley Hills Elementary school and became one of the many volunteer school nurses. Afterwards, when the kids were in school full time, she worked for small auto businesses using her financial skills to help with both financial areas of bookkeeping and providing salary checks. One CPA commented that her accounting skills were at the CPA level and that comment sent her soaring. In our family she was a special mother who will be known for many things, and I wanted to mention some of these. She and dad purchased a place in Florida where our family could all go on vacation together and make beach memories. How did we all fit into that place? This reminds me of her braving the Lake Como, Fl cabin and how did we fit all of the cousins in that small cabin ? She loved traveling and went to visit family in Florida, Oklahoma, Washington DC. She loved traveling to Hawaii and Europe with dear cousins. One more entry on travel, she shocked us with stories where at 12 years old she would ride the bus by herself to downtown Atlanta to go to the movies! And when she was not traveling or going to church, her family was famously fighting over her family’s famous chocolate fudge icing on top of her family’s homemade pound cake and her Mac and Cheese which had to be served at every family dinner from first birthdays to holiday dinners. There is one more item that Nancy was known for in the family and she was a Prayer Warrior because she prayed over family, friends, church members, co-workers. Everyone. She was a devoted member of two churches where she made lifelong friends. Dogwood Hills Baptist Church in East Point and Douglasville First Baptist Church. In both churches, she volunteered and sang in the choir. As a member of the Douglasville First Baptist Church in Douglasville, Ga she volunteered with the Children’s ministry, she was both a volunteer, tour guide and leader for the Keenagers group on their many trips and was the church receptionist for 10 years. She loved being with others on Sunday morning and she helped to found what she fondly called the Apple Fritter Sunday morning club. I am not sure how this started but she also loved being a member of the Fancy Nancy club. Another of her big loves at the church was the choir and she loved all the choir programs but especially the Christmas Tree. She loved it so much that even when she could not climb the stairs, a chair was setup next to the tree ! She so loved the members of her church and was inspired to start the ‘Book Project’ with a group of women that would share their stories of how God touched their lives to let others know He loves them and cares for them. The ‘Book’ is a collection of these stories and she loved every single moment of working on the ‘Book Project’. Later on, she moved to Creekside Senior Living and made many new friends and the one comment that was expressed over and over was that Nancy was always saying she was blessed and always had a smile for each person. Nancy was predeceased by her husband James L Hazelrigs and her mother and father, George and Alvena Tucker. Nancy is survived by sister Linda Tucker and her sister-in-law Carolyn Hazelrigs. Her daughter Lynn (Mark) Griffin and her son James T Hazelrigs, her grandchildren Dianne Hazelrigs, Jennifer, and Matthew Griffin, and many many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the music ministry of the Douglasville First Baptist Church, 5900 Prestley Mill Road, Douglasville, Georgia 30135
