Born on December 2, 1945, in Passaic, NJ, was raised and lived in San Jose, CA till 1993 where he settled in his beloved Hendersonville, NC. Nick's warm spirit and generous heart left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. He took his final breath in Kennesaw, Georgia, surrounded by the love of his family.
Nick was a beloved husband to his wife, Sharon L. Kennedy, a devoted father to his daughter, Judi Craig Mazzarella, and his sons, Jim and Greg Mazzarella. He cherished his role as a father-in-law to Drew Craig and adored his grandsons, Nicholas Joseph and Matthew, and his great-grandson, Jackson, who brought immense joy to his later years.
A proud graduate of James Lick High School in San Jose, California, in 1963, Nick furthered his education at San Jose City College, where he completed a two-year degree. His commitment to education was a cornerstone of his belief in the importance of personal growth and development.
Nick's dedication to serving his country was evident through his time in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967, where he served as an airborne artilleryman. His bravery and discipline during his military service were qualities that he carried throughout his life. After his honorable discharge, Nick eventually settled into a fulfilling career with Henderson County in North Carolina, where he worked as a tax assessor until his retirement in 2015.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Nick was a man of many passions and interests. He was the life of the party, known for his incredible hospitality and the memorable gatherings he hosted for his many friends. His love for food was paralleled only by his skill in the kitchen, and he delighted in sharing his culinary creations with others.
Nick's community spirit was unmatched. He found great joy and satisfaction in his role as lighting director and eventual President of the Flat Rock Playhouse. He enjoyed being a part of the local arts community.
An advocate for health and fitness, Nick could often be found in the gym, where he enjoyed keeping fit and playing racquetball. His love for the outdoors was evident in his appreciation for hiking and fishing, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and find peace.
Those who knew Nick would describe him as friendly, kind, and thoughtful. These attributes were the pillars of his character and were reflected in the way he interacted with the world around him. His ability to listen and his willingness to lend a hand were qualities that endeared him to all.
