Patricia Louise Hoover was born on November 21, 1933 to Carl and Mary Hoover, and departed this earth on December 4, 2022
Pat graduated from Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown, Indiana in 1951. She attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Pat had two children from her first marriage: Brenda Lill (Bruce), and Geoff Mitchell (deceased). She worked for the school system where her children attended school, so she could have summers off with the kids. Pat retired from the Ridgewood New Jersey School system in 1998.
From an early age, both music and the church were an important part of Pat’s life. She accompanied her father’s vocal group on piano and always had a church home where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Pat gradually lost her hearing which ended her ability to sing in the choir. When her health declined, she enjoyed participating in online church services.
In 1981, Pat married the love of her life, Bill Frei. During their 41 years together, their blended family of 7 children grew to include 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Pat was an avid seamstress. In the beginning of her life, it was a necessity and later in life it was a joy. She always made new flannel nightgowns or pajamas for children and grandchildren to open on Christmas Eve. She made magnificent draperies, clothing for herself and clothes for her grandchildren.
Bill and Pat enjoyed many years vacationing with friends to Cape Cod and St. Martin. They collected numerous pieces of artwork on their travels, and became familiar with many of the artists. Their home was decorated with those lovely memories.
Pat was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing life’s milestones with both family and friends. She enjoyed visits with her sisters, Loma (Doerstler) and Carla (Doles) when they would scour antique shops and the “Snooty Fox” consignment shops in Cincinnati.
Pat was preceded in death by her mother Mary Swindell, father, Carl Hoover, son, Geoffrey Mitchell, brothers, Giles and Eddie Hoover, and stepmother, Vera. Pat will be laid to rest in Hagerstown, Indiana, at some time in the future along with her husband Bill.
To celebrate Pat’s life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, 180 Academy Street, Alpharetta, GA 30009.
