Peter Van Gorp of Acworth, Georgia went to heaven on November 21, 2018 at the age of 90. Born in Pella, IA, he grew up in this Dutch community. He was an all-state HS basketball forward in 1945 and served the Army in 1946-48. He met June Klyn in HS and married at age 20 in 1948. He graduated from Purdue with a BS in Air Transport within his 2 yr. GI bill scholarship and June's support. They lived in D.C., CO, and then raised Kyle and Ryne in Lafayette, CA. They retired to Sonoma and El Dorado Hills, CA and were planning their 60th anniversary when June passed. In 2014, Peter came to Acworth, GA. Peter is survived by son Ryne, daughter-in-law Nan Hanks-Van Gorp, grandson Drew, granddaughter Anne, and step granddaughter Madison, all who are thankful in having shared in his life. Peter worked in transport engineering with an airline, a railroad and Bechtel. As a dedicated conservationist, he climbed numerous 13,000+ ft. peaks in the West and hiked the top peak of 44 states. He enjoyed bridge and tennis into his mid-80's. His approach to life was "simplicity in life is where it is at" and to "live more, want less"! Remembrances may be made to The Nature Conservancy and to MUST Ministries.
