Richard Lee Nelson passed away on July 25, 2022 at the age of 68, in Gainesville, GA after a 4-year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy “PSP”. Richard was born on September 24, 1953 in Casper, WY. Like his mother Rosa Nelson, he always had a passion for the more beautiful things in life. At a young age, his mother shared with him her love for painting during her battle with Leukemia, creating within him a passion for art that followed him throughout his life. A year after the passing of his mother he met his wife of 34 years Dawn Marie Nelson and built a life in Leadville, Colorado where they had three children. Richard moved his family to Anchorage, AK and achieved his lifelong dream of opening his own art studio. He was the family’s biggest inspiration and a true hero. The strength he possessed was not flashy or in your face; in many ways, he was a quiet, unassuming man that just got on with things; but it was beneath the surface that his principles and determination gave his family their strength. Richard was a wonderful and dedicated father. In this time of sorrow, we mourn his passing and remember the amazing husband, father and friend he was. No words can express the depth of loss we feel and we know life without him will not be easy. We loved him every day and will now miss him every day. Richard is survived; by his beloved wife of 34 years Dawn Marie Nelson, his three children Abigail Nevitt, Kody Nelson, Thomas Nelson and grandchildren Karson, Harper, Jacob and Breanna.
